Who are the personal trainers?

Malina

Why I became a personal trainer: I became a Personal Trainer because, throughout my life, I have been inspired by my father who was a competitive bodybuilder in Hawaii, as well as a free diving spear fisher. With his strength and training as my role model, I participated in many sports but focused on martial arts, which taught me perseverance, discipline, and competition. However, I became so competitive that I sacrificed my own health- such as hyperextending the ligaments in my knees- in order to place first in the International Mundial of 2010 and the second in 2014. As a consequence, I had to deal with these pains and obstacles and learn a new side of fitness which focused on healthy and proper conditioning in addition to recovering from my previous injuries. I remember how intimidating a room with heavy equipment can be to someone who focused on other aspects of the fitness world. After this enlightening personal experience, I wanted to help others not only recover from injuries but also learn how to train healthily and sculpt one’s body without becoming injured, while also feeling more comfortable in such an environment. My past experiences, in addition to those with clients, encourage and motivate me to keep following my passion and helping others as we all can become the best version of ourselves.

Training philosophy: “If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them” - Bruce Lee

Favorite exercises/specialties: My favorite exercises include HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) circuits, tabata, and endurance exercises- especially when mixed with martial arts combos. I believe that kickboxing is a perfect stress reliever, whether it be for exams, work, or whatever the origin. Releasing extra energy in addition to getting a healthy full body workout hitting all of your main muscle groups and cardio in the least amount of time possible is my goal every time I create a personal program.

Eva

Why I became a Personal Trainer: “I have always had a passion for physical fitness, however it wasn’t until my middle school years when I realized that strength training was my favorite area of fitness. With that said I became a personal trainer in hopes to help others be able to find their passion no matter what area of fitness it maybe in. I believe that our bodies are temples which require individualized work to keep it at its strongest and that it is our responsibility to maintain it through the knowledge of physical fitness.”

Training philosophy: I believe that by participating in physical fitness one is also developing and strengthing self-discipline, leadership, mental toughness, and self-identity.

Favorite exercises/specialties: My favorite exercise would have to be the power clean, because it targets so many muscles groups in one movement. However, I also enjoy pushups, pullups and the bench press. My go to training styles are: strength training, circuit training, weightlifting, and cardio (swimming, cycling and running).

David

Why I became a personal trainer:  I found my passion for training around 18. I was not active, didn't eat well, and was unmotivated about my future. This all changed once I got my first gym membership. Going to the gym, following a program, and getting my nutrition in check taught me discipline, something I so desperately needed. Fitness has also taught me to constantly try and better myself both inside and outside the gym. All I want now is to show people just how important fitness is.

Training philosophy: You're not going to reach your goal over night. Training is a life long endeavor. All you can do is show up, give it your all, and do better than you did yesterday.

Favorite exercises/specialties: For my training I mainly focus on hypertrophy, so I take more of a bodybuilding approach to building strength, and lean mass.

Jonny

Why I became a personal trainer:  I began training about 3 years ago. I was inexperienced and unprepared, but I was determined and thankfully I had a lot of people help me learn along the way. I love what I do and the feeling I get when I can help someone else reach a goal.

Training philosophy: "Be hungry, be humble, and always be the hardest worker in the room." -Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

Favorite exercises/specialties: I began my training solely studying hypertrophy and aesthetics and I add many of those elements into my routines. After spending two summers as the Wellness Coordinator at YMCA Camp Seagull I have taken a strong approach to athletic training, strength training and functional fitness in order to achieve a physique that is not only in shape, but also strong and useful.

Caroline

Why I became a personal trainer: Fitness and weightlifting have become key components of my life. When I watch others meet their goals, especially strength related, it creates a feeling of excitement that nothing else can. I want to help people achieve that level of excitement and motivation to keep furthering in their fitness journey.

Training Philosophy: To see progression you have to push past what is comfortable. If you can do this successfully and repetitively, you’ve also progressed mentally.

Favorite exercises/specialties: My personal favorite exercise is the deadlift. Not because I’m the strongest at it, but it makes me feel powerful. My specialties are strength and hypertrophy training as well as training for rock climbers.

Anna

Why I became a personal trainer: Ever since a young age I’ve had a drive for health and fitness. Growing up I was involved in various sports from competitive gymnastics to club volleyball.  When I came to college I no longer had my team to hold me accountable. I decided to take my health into my own hands and embark on a fitness journey. I experimented with yoga, running and circuit training before eventually finding my passion for weightlifting. As a continued to get stronger, I was amazed how my body began to change and discovered I could grow my muscles and curves to create the physique I desired. It was not only these physical changes but also the mental changes that prompted me to become a trainer. My fitness journey has given me the confidence and skills to progress and become better each and every day. I am inspired to share my experiences and knowledge with my clients too, to help others better their lives.

Training philosophy:Fitness is a lifestyle- not a temporary fix. I work one on one with clients to inspire and motivate them to adopt a healthy, maintainable lifestyle and fall in love with every step of the process. Results are backed by science. I continue to expand my knowledge on physiology and nutrition to develop comprehensive result based programs individualized for each client's desired goals.  Not only am I a resource for information but I am a coach and support system for my clients each and every step of their fitness journey.

Favorite exercises/specialties:
-Specialize in aesthetic training
-Helping women build curves and acquire their desired body in the gym
-Fat loss
-Core strength
-Compound movements
-Circuit training
-Hypertrophy
