Campus Recreation is the largest employer of students on campus! We wouldn’t be the department that we are without our student employees. Below is a list of all positions and their job description. Each program area hires in the Spring and Fall Semesters; you can find all currently open positions in Bulldog NetWORK. Informal Recreation and Aquatics

Frontline Staff

Work in several different capacities in the Student Recreation Center and Sherrill Center as either a customer service representative or fitness room attendant.

Facility Supervisor

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the facility, monitor and record usage hourly, administer performance evaluations on facility and lifeguarding staff, act as a contact person in lieu of professional staff persons, schedule staff people for work shifts and special events, hold weekly office hours, provide correct information about all policies and programs offered by the Campus Recreation Department, enforce all policies, and provide emergency care when necessary. Attendance at weekly meetings with supervisor and weekend work is required. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to; the oversight of security related issues in the Student Recreation Center and surrounding buildings and entry points, peer supervision daily, ongoing training of facility and lifeguarding staff, ongoing communication with the professional staff of informal recreation, providing customer service to patrons and campus departments, and helping with the set up and break down of specific needs for special events and group rentals. Other duties as assigned.

Lifeguard

Provide supervision, maintain an accurate count of users for the duration of the shift, enforce policies and administer lifesaving techniques when necessary to all patrons using the SRC pool.

Swim Lesson Instructor

Provide instruction to youth or adults in group or individual sessions on swimming technique, water safety, and additional aquatic skills.  Instructors will facilitate sessions to show progression throughout.

Aquatics Supervisor

It is the responsibility of the aquatics supervisor to uphold the mission, vision and values of the department while working on aquatic programs.  During your time with us, we will commit ourselves to each other as professionals, educators, and service providers to provide the highest quality experience for employees and patrons of the aquatics program. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to: maintaining and creating the lifeguard schedule, co-lead in-service trainings, assist in managing the swim lesson program, creation and marketing of aquatic programs to the campus. Esports

Campus Recreation is hiring new student staff for our Esport Gaming Center. We are recruiting a variety of positions including:

  • Gaming Center Moderators and Managers (Operational staff for Esport Gaming Center)
  • Esport Ambassadors (Program planning and outreach team)
  • Coaches (Recruiting and hosting team tryouts Fall 2022)
  • Stream Production Crew (Broadcasters, Commentators, Shoutcasters, Tech Support)

The Gaming Center is anticipated to open early Fall 2022 and will feature high level gaming PCs and console stations offering a variety of games as approved by the Esport Advisory Team, iRacing rigs, a lounge and viewing area. The Gaming Center will offer drop-in play, recreational clubs, and competitive university club teams. We are looking for students who have experience, knowledge, or a willingness to learn tech support, event programming, coaching (initial team will include SuperSmash Bros, League of Legends, Rocket League, and iRacing), significant experience in esport and online gaming or experience working with Discord and streaming in programs like OBS and Twitch. Some positions may involve summer work in-person or virtual.

All applicants will be sent an Esport Interest & Information form to complete and share more about their interests, skills, and experience in this wide variety of work.

Positions will start at $9 an hour for training, with a range of $9.75 to $11 per hour depending on experience and position.

Intramural Sports

Scorekeeper

Records game statistics and/or keeps time for the intramural sports program

Sport Official

Officials are hired for year long commitments for officiating seasonal sport leagues and tournaments within the intramural sports program. Officials are responsible for enforcing playing rules and intramural sports policies with participants and spectators. Officials may be required to attend bi-weekly official meetings for content review. Training for all sports is provided before each season begins.

  • No experience necessary but a basic rules knowledge of the offered sports are required

  • Participants are encouraged to participate in intramural sports as well as officiate
  • $9.75 per hour

Supervisor

Directly supervise intramural activities and personnel including players, officials and staff members. On any given circumstance, supervisors may be in charge of event opening and closing in our facilities, emergency responder situations, evaluation of officials, participant conflict resolution and more.

Outdoor Programs

Trip Leader

Trip leaders are students interested in outdoor leadership, teaching their peers and sharing their love of the outdoors with others. Pay is based on experience and certifications. All trip leaders must first take part in the Outdoor Leadership Training Program or have equivalent relevant experience. Bike Shop Mechanic Training Program

Bike shop mechanics assist in bike rentals and teach customers in maintaining and repairing their bikes. Any student interested in working in the bike shop is invited to begin the mechanic training program. Applications are accepted at the beginning and middle of the semester. A training checklist must be completed before a new mechanic is hired and included on the work schedule.

  • Level 3 and bike shop supervisor $12.50.

Team Building Facilitator

Team Building Facilitators are responsible for one to three hours programs with small groups working on team work, fun, challenge by choice, and other focus areas determined by each group. Facilitators may work together or alone, on campus, on the Diamond Brand Challenge Course, indoors, or at off campus locations upon a groups request. Groups range in ages from elementary to adults. Facilitator positions and training is periodically offered. Leadership experience desired.

Team Building Supervisor

The Team Building supervisor position requires adequate previous experience working on low ropes courses, facilitating all age groups, and outstanding organization and communication skills. This position works closely with the Outdoor Program Coordinator to market, organize, plan, train, maintain and implement indoor and outdoor team building activities for groups of all ages as well as equipment inventory and maintenance of the Diamond Brand Challenge Course.

Fitness

Personal Trainer

This position is part of the Campus Recreation Personal Training Program. Work with varied populations (students, faculty, staff, College for Seniors) to develop individualized exercise programs based on their goals and needs. All sessions and clients are booked by the trainer so that they can tailor their schedule around classes. No training experience is required but it is preferred. Group Exercise Instructor

Instruct classes on your specialty content area- yoga, strength training, dance, you name it. The schedule is determined based on your availability and what classes you prefer to teach. Teaching experience and certifications are not required but you must have experience in your chosen area.
